We values your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and share information through our app Kalimbay, available on iOS and Android. It also covers our website at https://kalimbaymusic.com, which uses Google Analytics to measure site traffic; cookies set by the website are separate from the app.

1. Information We Collect

We may collect the following types of data from users:

Identifiers such as:

  • Device ID (e.g., IDFA or Android Advertising ID)

  • IP address

Usage Data such as:

  • App interaction (collected by Firebase Analytics, provided by Google LLC)

  • Crash data

  • Performance metrics

Approximate Location — We do not request access to your device's location. Our advertising partner (Google AdMob) may infer an approximate location from your IP address for the purpose of showing relevant ads.

Photos and Media Files — If you use the custom background feature, the app will request permission to access your device's photo gallery or storage. These photos are processed and stored strictly on your local device and are never uploaded to our servers or shared with third parties.

Recordings — If you record a performance of the kalimba in the app, the recording is generated and stored locally on your device. It is only shared if you choose to export or share it yourself through the app's export feature.

Purchase Data — In-app purchases are processed entirely by Google Play or the Apple App Store. We do not receive, collect, or store your payment card information.

What we do NOT collect — Our app does not require an account, and we do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or other contact information.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected data for the following purposes:

  • To display personalized advertisements

  • To analyze usage and improve app performance

  • To measure ad effectiveness

  • To comply with legal obligations

We keep analytics and usage data only for as long as necessary for the purposes above. Third-party providers (including Google AdMob and Firebase) retain data according to their own retention policies, which you can review in their respective privacy documentation.

3. Tracking and App Tracking Transparency (ATT)

Our iOS app uses the App Tracking Transparency framework, which requires your permission to track your activity across other companies' apps and websites.

If you give permission, we may share certain identifiers (such as the IDFA) with our advertising partners (e.g., AdMob) to provide personalized ads. You can change your permission in your iOS device settings:

Settings > Privacy > Tracking

If you deny permission, you may still see ads, but they will not be personalized.

On Android, you can opt out of personalized advertising or reset your advertising ID at any time in your device settings:

Settings > Google > Ads

4. Data Sharing

We may share your data with:

  • Third-party ad networks such as Google AdMob

  • Analytics services such as Firebase Analytics (Google LLC)

  • Crash and performance reporting via Google Play Console and the Apple App Store

  • Legal authorities when required by law

All shared data is limited to what is necessary and processed according to applicable data protection laws.

Some of our third-party service providers (including Google AdMob) may process data on servers located outside your country of residence. By using our app, you acknowledge and consent to such transfers, which are protected by standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards.

Depending on your location, you may have rights including:

  • Access to the data we store about you

  • Correction (rectification) of inaccurate data

  • Request deletion of your data

  • Data portability

  • Opt-out of personalized ads

  • Withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent

  • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority

6. Children's Privacy

Our app is not intended for children under 13 (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country). We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you are a parent and believe your child has used our app, please contact us.

7. User-Generated Content

Kalimbay allows users to create, edit, export, and share custom music tabs and custom background images. All user-created content is stored locally on the user's device. We do not host, store, or moderate user-generated content.

When you choose to share your content through third-party platforms (such as Discord or social media), you are solely responsible for the content you share, including ensuring you have the right to share any song titles, lyrics, or other copyrighted material. Kalimbay does not review, endorse, or take responsibility for content shared by users through external platforms.

You retain all rights to your user-generated content. By sharing content through Kalimbay's export feature, you acknowledge that any recipients you share with may import and use that content.

Links in the app to external platforms (such as social media profiles, app stores, or our website) are provided for your convenience. Once you leave the app, the privacy policies of those third-party platforms apply, and we are not responsible for their content or practices.

8. Users in the European Economic Area (EEA) and the UK

If you are located in the EEA or the UK, we (or our advertising partner Google AdMob) will ask for your consent before showing personalized ads. You can decline personalized ads and still continue to use the app with non-personalized ads. You can change your ad preferences at any time through the consent prompt shown in the app or your device settings.

9. California Residents (CCPA)

If you are a resident of California, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, request its deletion, and opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not sell your personal information. To the extent ad personalization is considered "sharing" under the California Consumer Privacy Act, you can opt out by disabling personalized ads (see Section 3) or by contacting us at support@kalimbaymusic.com.

10. Data Security and Retention

  • Local content (music tabs, custom backgrounds, and recordings) is stored only on your device and is deleted when you delete it or uninstall the app.

  • Usage and ad-related data is retained only as long as necessary for the purposes described in Section 2; third-party providers apply their own retention policies.

  • We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the limited data we handle. Note that no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy with a new "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. Material changes will be communicated through the app or the website.
